Hot Job

After leaving NC we stopped in Washington and visited Arlington National Cemetary. As usual, it was hotter than heck there. The cemetary was very hilly, and pushing Al and Ev was hard. Alison found it interesting, especially JFK's Eternal Flame. I prefer his brother's "Eternal Waterfall." I wouldn't want to be buried with a fire on top of me, especially not in that hot place!

Evan in NC

Evan in the Pisgah Forest looking at the waterfall. Evan spent most of the time in NC climbing up and down the stairs at GS and Charlie's. He took over the fireplace hearth as his "place." It rained almost every day and Ev liked to play in the rain outside.

Cold Waterfall

This is a waterfall in Pisgah Ntl Forest. Mike went in the water underneath it and said it was freezing. On the other side of the road people were tubing.

Brevard NC 4th of July 05

Started the vacation on the 4th of July weekend in Brevard, NC. This is a main street celebration with street vendors, entertainment, etc. It was a very hot day here. We ate lunch at DD Bullwinkle's & Rocky's. It's like a 50's ice cream fountain with a general store. We also bought 25.00 t-shirts for all of us. There are some hilly and windy roads here. We went through Pisgah National Forest up to the Blue Ridge Pkwy.

Scene of the Crime (mosquito) Posted by Hello

Gigantic mosquito bites

Thought I would have a quiet weekend to clean the house. No. Yesterday Evan got some mosquito bites at outside playgroup. One was on his cheek. It swelled up a bit as his bites usually do but he went to bed fine and slept all night. This morning I went in his room and found Quasimodo. Or Igor. His left eye was swollen shut and the bite area was huge and full of fluid. So we spent all morning waiting to see a doctor. It's nothing serious but he has to take antibiotics for 5 days and benadryl and eye drops. He's doing well with it, acting his usual self, which is good.

Yesterday I picked the red van up from Firestone. Supposedly all fixed. OK. I got 1 mile down the road and something started going crazy in the engine. bang BANG crack WWWHHHIRRRR kachonk, kachong, bang, BANG. So I pulled into a parking lot and checked and it seemed to be a loose belt. Of course I was on the way to Al's important dr. appt. Luckily Mike answered the cell phone and came and we switched vans. He rode in the tow truck back to Firestone. It was a belt put on improperly. They fixed it and paid the tow truck. So it worked out. No major tragedies but a stressful, busy week.

Rainy Solstice

Al and I went to the solstice celebration at church. It was cool and nice; we had it in the screen room. There was a big rainbow outside and we did the spiral dance out there. Al really liked it. No pictures though, a little dark.

Another blah day

Super day. I lost my credit card outside of walmart. Drove back to look for it but it was gone; called Mike, he cancelled it. This afternoon some nice people called and said they found it. We already ordered a new one so we told them to cut it up. Yay for nice people. Ev was fussy today, seems like MORE teeth.

blah day

Rained lightly all day, cloudy. Ev and I went back to the new libray. Wow, we could park wherever we wanted- no police! Got a pilates dvd and played it this afternoon. Ev did NOT like it- he kept trying to stop me from doing the exercises. I had to put him in his playpen and shut his door. I did almost the whole dvd and it was really stupid. It's much harder exercise to dance with the wiggles dvds; keeps ev happier too. He is starting to try to jump and dance.

Outside Baby

We went to church today. Very hot. Evan wanted to be OUTSIDE! He played in the memorial garden for quite a while. Kenn is getting married in a few weeks; he'll be gone most of the summer... Vi and Harold got married- that was a surprise. The Beans are leaving the country soon so we invited them to dinner next week.

The "Parking Police"

We went to the grand opening of Lakes Regional Library. We turned into the road to the parking lot and saw a line of cars, each stopping to talk to police "volunteers." We got up to the head of the line and a boy scout said, "The lot is full- you have to go park a mile away and take a shuttle bus." I told him about the wheelchair and lift, yada, yada. He said- "go talk to those guys over there. Drove over to the guys. Gave me a look, the 3 of them, stood in front of the van and said-"The lot is FULL. Go park at Heights!" Very stern looks. I told them about ramp, wheelchair, yada, yada and could clearly see empty disabled spaces in the library lot. "No, the shuttle has a lift, so you have to go." Jerks. So we almost went home- I don't know how we could handle a wc, jogging stroller, and baby on a mini bus. Anyway, we tried it and the driver was very nice. He let me bring the stroller- he even put it up the lift. So we got to the library and I realized I forgot Ev's bottle in the car. Shit. He can't last an hour without a bottle. So we spent an hour there and it was really nice, but crowded, and got back on the shuttle and to the car. I was quite tired. Al was great! She tried to cheer me up. The library staff was great too. But a bit "PPPPPPPPPTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTBBBBBBBBBBBB!!!!! to the parking police.

Beach and Concert

Went to bonita bch. with the playgroup. Evan went around taking beach toys off of everyone's blanket. He is not afraid of water, sand, rocks, shells, or seaweed. Doesn't like waves hitting him in the face though.

Alison's friday concert at the music camp. Her little drama groups did good. Funny skits. She is looking forward to a weekend off.
